Your role:

We are looking for an experienced Travel Category Manager will help define and deliver strategy/program changes for News UK entities across the travel category on a 12-month contract.

You will drive strategic sourcing initiatives, define and control the category end-to-end Procurement cycle and manage as well as optimizes supplier performance and contracts within the travel space whilst also ensuring high level of customer satisfaction across the multiple entities.

Day to day you will:

  • Engage with internal stakeholders across entities included in this remit
  • Execute and manage a strategy plan covering all elements of category management (define, analysis, execute and manage).
  • Develop category strategy and document associated value for money proposition.
  • Develop and undertake supplier capability assessments.
  • Create negotiation strategies and lead negotiations.
  • Work with the businesses and other functions to ensure category recommendations meet expectations and best outcomes are achieved.
  • Manage supplier performance (review progress, assess progress and close contract).
  • Management of supply base within the category and associated supplier assurance.
  • Act as champions for the procurement transformation project, with a particular focus on embedding new programs and e-tools to support the spend.
  • Acts as an Ambassador of the Procurement organisation with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Support development of material for category management to standardise processes, document lessons learned and good practice and deliver improved operational efficiency.

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Strong travel experience, including supplier sourcing and implementation of new programs and e-tools.
  • Strong experience working in all disciplines of the travel industry
  • Strong and effective decision-making capacity.
  • Effective at interpreting complex and multiple sources of information to make decisions.
  • Strong programme management skills.
  • Identify and implement sustainable cost saving programs
  • A good understanding and awareness of travel jargon both verbal and written
  • Improve processes to eliminate non-value adding activities.
  • Highly effective collaboration skills.
  • Effective at influencing others, esp. executive management.
  • Expert knowledge of travel product and services market place.
