Finance role supporting the Group Finance Manager and Head of Finance. Group Finance is a key function with oversight of all areas of the business and regular direct liaison with CFO/CEO.

The principle responsibility of the role is to assist in processing and delivering regular P&L performance reporting and current year forecasting across the News Corp UK & Ireland portfolio to the CFO, combined with ad hoc analysis to support the business, and in particular the CEO, in making decisions.



  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of weekly results to the CFO
  • To assist in the logistics of the weekly reporting process and execute systems changes
  • Investigate and solve any variances which arise during the weekly reporting process
  • Understand the full P&Ls for the News UK business comprised of titles; print and digital, print operations and brand extensions as well as Unruly and Wireless Group
  • Assist with investigating variances in results against expectations with other finance staff

Monthly Reporting

  • Completion of the month end process including system and organisational assistance
  • Consolidation of the News Corp UK numbers and the reporting required to support the sign off process
  • Offering assistance to teams where required and liaising with TM1 development team for problem resolution
  • Ensuring the Finance Manager is made aware of any problems or delays
  • Ensuring consolidation, tax and cash flow teams receive numbers at the end of each reporting cycle in line with the timetable
  • Supporting the on-going development of reporting outputs and monthly review process
  • Assist in the completion of US narrative explaining variances


  • Providing systems and organisational assistance around the Budget and Forecast process
  • Consolidation of the News Corp UK numbers and the reporting required to support the sign-off process
  • Ensuring the Finance Manager is made aware of any problems or delays
  • Assist in the systems and process improvements with a view to making the process more efficient
  • Assist in updating and maintaining the rolling forecast and tracking of mitigating action
  • Supporting the budgeting and forecast cycles for News Corp UK, including:
    • Summary schedules for presentational purposes
    • Internal consistency
    • Assist in the completion of US narrative explaining variances
  • Assist in update and maintenance of forecast/budget books

Quarterly Reporting

  • Assisting with analysis and completion of narratives for the quarter end conference call

Ad Hoc

  • Providing ad hoc support to the Finance Manager and Head of Finance where required


  • Ensure TM1 cubes reconcile at the end of each reporting cycle and investigate any discrepancies between TM1 cubes
  • Own the TM1 development list and work with the TM1 team to drive changes
  • Identifying and developing process improvements and investigating solutions via TM1 development

Additional Requirements

  • Newly qualified accountant
  • Pro-active individual who indicates via their actions a desire to get the job done
  • Experience of coordinating information involving multiple business areas
  • Proven organisational skills
  • Commercially aware with strong accounting skills
  • Strong report writing skills coupled with a high level of IT literacy in excel and ideally SAP and TM1
  • Tenacity and willingness to challenge at all levels
  • Drive and enthusiasm to develop the role and realise process efficiency
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and ability to check numbers for accuracy and consistency
  • Logical thinker and able to solve problems
  • Ability to work to deadlines
