What’s the job? Sales Manager – Travel

What’s my personal contribution?

To be an externally facing, multi-media sales person, responsible for maximising revenue and market share opportunities from an allocated set of media agencies and direct travel clients. Responsible for building strong relationships at all levels and providing excellent customer service. This role will be responsible for selling all travel advertising opportunities across print, tablet, mobile, and digital across all News UK brands.

What are my Responsibilities & Accountabilities?

  • Develop strong relationships with key direct clients to ensure they understand the product portfolio available from News UK and we, in turn, understand their product mix and customer segments. Work with their media agency partners to deliver creative and compelling advertising proposals that meet their needs.
  • Nurture and develop existing relationships, of top tier media agencies, in conjunction with the Agency Development Team, maintaining strong relationships and ambitious growth objectives to drive repeat sales and meet revenue targets
  • Delivering excellent service to both direct clients and media agencies including delivering feedback on campaign performance; acting as a point of contact for any trouble shooting; delivering effective and creative sales proposals, presentations and negotiations.
  • Responsibility for pitching and winning new direct clients to News UK, across all titles
  • Delivery of innovative, bespoke, multi-channel solutions through print and online channels across the News UK portfolio that present one solution for clients to engage with the Company’s target audiences.

  • Be proficient in selling creative solutions to Agencies and Direct clients utilising our content, video capability and other assets which News UK have as a resource.

  • Proactive engagement with agency contacts across all levels to build a strong contact network and create the opportunity to win business off brief as well as consistently winning business in response to brief.

  • Demonstrate very high levels of telephone and face to face sales activity and manage all business through your designated Agency portfolio where applicable.

  • Meet and exceed individual and team revenue targets selling across all platforms and all News UK brands.

  • Generate incremental revenues from existing agencies by up-selling additional advertising opportunities, multi-market, cross platform solutions and long term commitments.

  • Proactively pursuing and securing advertising business from new agencies or new travel clients within an existing agency

  • Manage the performance of the campaigns across all titles/platforms to ensure the optimisation and optimum delivery of each campaign

  • Maintaining a clear understanding of client needs, future plans and commercial objectives.

  • Create a deep understanding of client’s position re: strategy, planning and executing.

  • Build a strong internal and external profile for the Travel Team of News UK

Essential knowledge, skills and experience

  • Selling online, mobile, video and in-paper display and classified advertising
  • Experience in working within the travel industry and have existing key contacts/relationships

  • Strong strategic mind-set, having the ability to turn insights into ideas
  • An ability to communicate and influence customer decision makers
  • An excellent understanding of the digital advertising ecosystem, including knowledge of ad networks, ad exchanges, and audience re-targeting

  • Experience of managing, delivering and reporting on budgets.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and have excellent negotiating and influencing skills for external partners

  • Experience with online travel clients/campaigns

  • Proven success in selling media advertising

  • Good understanding of content marketing and the role it can play in creative solutions
